WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CENTER?

If the Plan doesn’t work, change the plan but never the Goal! Our goal to make a difference and give back to our community will never change! With that, we want to announce that as of December 15th, the Stone County Community Center’s physical location at 116B West Main will be closing. We can say that it is a sad decision that has been made, but we are proud of the work that we have put in. Many, many hours have been spent planning and trying to make things work for the best for our community! Our volunteers have been the best support team, and without them we couldn’t have made our daily operations a success! So what does the future of the Stone County Community Center look like? It does not mean we are going to stop doing what we set out to do! We still are dependent on volunteers for our events, but these events will take place at places that are more convenient, beneficial, and accommodating for the community and its actual needs. Our mission statement states, “The mission of the Stone County Community Center is to promote and provide quality activities and services that will contribute to the physical, emotional, intellectual, character, and social well-being of the community. We aim to accomplish these goals by providing supervised program opportunities for the enrichment of children and teens; activities and services for senior citizens; and affordable recreational, social, and educational opportunities for all residents and visitors of Stone County”. While we are taking a different path, we are still committed to this statement and supporting our community. We know we can still succeed in doing so by continuing to host our established events such as Fall Fest, Color Run, Back to School, Kids Fest, and the Mountains and Mistletoe Holiday Market; all of which may look a little different by not utilizing the location on Main Street. These events, along with a few new ideas, will make sure that we continue to make an impact on our little town! Starting the SCCC and having the building was just a step along the way! Please know that over the last 4 years, the love and support our community has shown to us through volunteering, donations, business sponsorships and participating in our events has meant the world to us! Any donations that have been made will still be used as planned to put back into our community! We’ll be sitting down over the next couple of months and planning out what our upcoming events will be so please stay tuned! We will be keeping our Facebook page, Instagram and website so be sure to continue to follow us. If you are interested in volunteering, or being part of the planning of future events, please reach out to us!

Much love from the SCCC Board Stefine, April, Denise and Taylar
